In weeks 1 to 4 beginners will be introduced to handbuilding techniques, pinching, coiling and slab work, plus basic decorative and glazing techniques. Continuers are welcome to join in to refresh their skills or work on their own projects with teacher guidance.
In weeks 5 to 8 you will be introduced to wheel work, centering the clay and basic forming and trimming techniques.
We will be using white earthenware clay which is availabe from Artsup in Kingswood where you can also purchase a basic set of tools. Show your membership card for discounts on tools and brushes. Not available for clay though.
A set of basic tools including:
metal serrated kidney
small sharp knife - like a paring knife or scalpel
large freezer bags or zip lock bags
small jar with tight lid
1 inch (3 cm) goats hair brush - soft for glazing
#10 hogs bristle paint brush - just a cheap one
a few cheap watercolour brushes in different sizes including a small fan brush
You are welcome to use the centre's basic set of glazes which is covered by the $15 glaze and firing fee, but if you want some specific colour or effect you will need to purchase your own. Make sure you get earthenware glazes.
