Introduction to contemporary printmaking is course designed for beginners and intermediate artists with existing skills in printmaking wanting to return to the media and refresh their skills. No previous experience in printmaking is necessary.
During this course you will learn a variety of printmaking techniques including mono-print, dry point, lino block, and there is potential to experiment with etching and or silk screen and stencil.
Participants will be required to buy materials and a list will be emailed or given to student on the first day.
Introductory materials list :
Different papers will be required at different stages/ depending on the print technique.
Don’t go and buy these all at once.
- Stonehenge (Monoprint, lino block, silkscreen)
- Rives BFK, Fabriano Rosipino (etching, dry point)
- Rice papers heavier weights will work best. (Lino block, Monoprint, screen-print)
- Cheaper proofing papers- acid free cartridge
- Butchers paper
- Acid free tissue paper to store the works on paper.
Soft cut lino/ lino block types (will be discussed).
ü Lino cutting tools
ü Printing inks (will be discussed by the tutor) – artists quality are Derivan, Charbonel ( Aqua wash and Oil) Graphic Chemical, Akura or similar. Many inks will be used for different processes.
ü Drawing materials: 2B or 4B pencil, white chalk,
ü Transfer paper
ü Sketchbooks and/ or ideas pad (this can be an Ipad)
ü Rags if you have spare to share- soft is best
ü Collage materials for Chine Colle- coloured papers, old books, printed textures.
ü Textured materials for Mono printing
ü Plastic dry point plates
ü Scrim/ Tarlaton or Cheese Cloth
Contemporary Print group- BMCC proposed program.
